Step Into the Writers’ Study

Welcome to a new blog from The Scribes, Comprehensive Writing Services!

Are You a Writer Looking for Ideas and Support?

We’re passionate about writing and storytelling. Our posts will spring from the writing courses we teach, our invigorating conversations over hot chocolate at Java Bay Café, the latest books we’re reading, and our own writing discoveries.

About Us

Jeanette, who has four books in print, writes nonfiction history about the British Columbia Coast. She regales passengers aboard the historic Columbia III with stories about the islands and inlets of Vancouver Island’s inner coast (check out Mothership Adventures website: http://www.mothershipadventures.com/) and can otherwise be found in the office of her 121-year-old log house, overlooking orchards, gardens, fields and the sea. Jeanette is currently at work on a history of the colonial era, told through one man’s experiences.

Annette has a passion for stories. When she is sleuthing them out, writing them down, oral storytelling or hearing them told; she is in her sweet spot. Her own writing travels between genres from poetry to personal essay, fiction and creative nonfiction. She enjoys helping others find and craft their own stories and believes that sharing our stories is as fundamental to being human as food, air, shelter and water. Annette is also a freelance editor and business communications writer.

You’ve decided to write a memoir or family history. In fact, you’ve had a project in mind for a few years, but you don’t know where to start. Annette and Jeanette will talk about exercises, ideas and structures that have helped their students get started. And they’ll roll up their own sleeves, blow the dust from their unfinished manuscripts shelved for nearly a year, sharing their highs and lows as they get back to work.
